You’ll usually find requests either close to doors as you follow the main path, or around the merchant’s shops. Some of the tasks require you to fetch specific items and sell them, so you’ll be gaining a bit of money for your troubles every now and then, too. But you’ll have the option to repeat them if you want as they’ll reset in each new playthrough.
